It is the holiday season!

And no matter what holidays you celebrate or don’t celebrate, you cannot help but be inundated with Christmas carols. As someone who loves to knit, I am proposing a new tradition of Knitter’s carols.

Come carolling with my husband and me with the ever popular “Finished Size is Based on Your Gauge.” You know the tune (“Santa Claus is Coming to Town”) and you know you want to sing along. Heck, you might even want to knit along!

Finished Size is Based on Your Gauge (to the tune of Santa Claus is coming to town)

Follow along with the lyrics below the video!

You’d better swatch out,
If you don’t wanna cry
You’d better check gauge,
I’m tellin’ you why.
Finished size is based on your gauge.

You’ve got a pattern, you’re checkin’ it twice.
You’re gonna find out what needle is right
Finished size is based on your gauge

It depends on how you’re knittin’
On how you hold your yarn
If you use plastic, metal or wood
Knit flat or in the round

You’d better swatch out,
If you don’t wanna cry
You’d better check gauge,
I’m tellin’ you why.
Finished size is based on your gauge.

With straights, dpns
And circulars too,
No matter the length
Or what size will do,
Finished size depends on your gauge.

Sweaters, hats, socks,
They need to fit,
Gauge is essential,
Don’t do without it
Finished size is based on your gauge.

I just finished a sweater
It turned out way too big
Because I didn’t check my gauge
before I sta-a-arted

I should’a checked gauge
And blocked my swatch
Now my sweater
Fits on my car,
Finished size is based on your gauge.

Doesn’t matter what you’re knittin’,
You need to check your gauge,
It determines drape and yardage
As well as finished size!

You’d better swatch out,
If you don’t wanna cry
You’d better check gauge,
I’m tellin’ you why.
Finished size is based on your gauge.

You’d better swatch out,
If you don’t wanna cry
You’d better check gauge,
I’m tellin’ you why.
Finished size is based on . . .
Finished size is based on your gauge.

Whatever or however you celebrate,

Happy Holidays Everyone!
